a salinas valley state inmate has died. former oakland resident damon valery was found unresponsive in his cell this morning. although c.p.r. was done WHILE HE WAS BEING TRANSPORTED to the hospital, VALERY succumbed to his injuries. his death is being investigated as a possible homicide.
valery was 25 years-old when he was charged with the beating death of 2 year-old dante jones in 1998. valery, who was the boyfriend of the toddler’s aunt, was incarcerated at other facilities before being moved to salinas valley state prison last august.
