a juvenile inmate at the monterey county youth detention center was injured after he attempted to escape the facility yesterday. paramedics took the young man to an area hospital, after he suffered a back injury on a field while trying to flee the center. investigators at the detention center are investigating how the juvenile escaped, how he was injured, and if any officers were involved in that injury.
this escape attempt comes as the detention center is making security upgrades, because 9 juveniles escaped last year.
