Santa cruz county has a new poet laureate. Retired ucsc professor of literature and philosophy david swanger has been named to the honorary post. Swanger is the county’s 2nd poet laureate; the position was established in 2010 by the cultural council of santa cruz county and poetry santa cruz. Swanger has published 4 poetry books, and has won the john Ciardi prize in poetry. he will promote poetry throughout the county during his 2-year-term, and is expected to give readings at several events.
