Plans have been abandoned for a new monterey-salinas transit center, that was slated to be built on the former fort ord. opponents of the plan had lobbied against the transit hub, because it would have forced the removal of 1-thousand oak trees. 18-thousand signatures were gathered in opposition, and, on Tuesday, monterey county supervisors rescinded their approval of the project. that leaves the fate of a new M-S-T-building uncertain. It would cost as much as a million dollars to build the hub somewhere else, and federal funding is no longer expected for the project.
