A cigarette thrown into a trash can is believed to have sparked a fire at a Salinas home on Saturday. The blaze ignited just before 2 p.m., at a residence on Melrose avenue. Salinas firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before the fire spread beyond the garage and attic- area. Nobody was injured in the incident.
