A 17-year-old man has been sentenced to 15-years in prison, after being convicted of assaulting a teenager in Watsonville. The incident last august prompted santa cruz county authorities to re-examine the criteria for booking a suspect into juvenile hall. The convicted man, carlos Zamora had been arrested earlier, on the same day of the assault. He was cited and released, and he later slashed a 16-year-old boy in the face at ramsay park. Zamora accepted a plea deal, in which he was convicted as an adult, agreed to register as a gang member, and pay restitution. (the 15-year prison sentence was also part of the deal). The victim suffered non-life threatening wounds in the attack.
