Firefighters were able to extinguish a house fire in live oak on Saturday, but not before the house was destroyed. Most of the sommerfield avenue home had been burned by the time firefighters from Cal-Fire were called at 3 p.m. the flames were put out, but the house was deemed “uninhabitable.” A 45-year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation and 1st degree burns. The flames were likely sparked by a malfunctioning stove, which might have ignited cooking oil. The victims were aided by the Santa Cruz County Red Cross.
