The santa cruz county board of supervisors has voted to approve a jail-realignment plan. The plan paves the way for local jails to start receiving an influx of new inmates, in accordance with the state’s realignment plan. That new law allows certain convicts to serve their sentences in local jails, rather than state prison. The 5 to zero vote of approval, included a plan to have the county’s top corrections officers report back to county leaders, at the end of the year, to monitor how the changes are being implemented. Also at the board’s meeting, supervisors gave final approval to newly-redrawn supervisorial district-boundaries.
