The department of defense has identified the remains of a world war 2 airman, (who was shot down in 1943), as a former salinas resident. 2nd lieutenant charles e. trimingham was part of a crew on a b-17 bomber, which was shot down in the pacific theater, on New Britain island (north-east of Australia). The remains were found in 1949, however the site was not excavated until 2001. d-n-a and dental tests were then conducted to identify trimingham, as well as the 8-other crew members. A burial ceremony is set for the crew tomorrow, at arlington national cemetery.
