2-officials with the santa cruz fire department have announced their plans to retire. Chief hollis oliver, (known as Ron), and the department’s finance director, jack dilles, both plan to end their careers at the end of the year. Chief oliver, (who is 65), has been the department’s chief for the past 5-years. dilles, (who is 59), has been with santa cruz fire for 3-years. the 2-have served at a time of consistent budget reductions. A search will be launched for a new finance director, meanwhile the fire chief position could go to u.c.s.c. fire chief jeff trapp, if those 2-departments merge their command structures. A vote on that plan is slated for September 27th.
