A Monterey city councilman who is accused of domestic violence and battery, has been offered a plea deal by prosecutors. The deal, offered during a court appearance yesterday, could make it possible for 46-year-old jeff haferman to avoid jail time. The alleged victim in the case, haferman’s girlfriend, has asked that the charges be dropped, however the Monterey county district attorney has not agreed to do so. The arrest came on july 31st, when the victim went to a Monterey police station to report the assault. The montrey city council does not plan to take official action against haferman. He is set to return to court on September 28th.
