A PROTEST RALLY AND MARCH WAS HELD IN SANTA CRUZ SUNDAY. PROTESTORS WANT A DEVELOPER TO STOP CONSTRUCTION ON THE SITE (NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF MARKET STREET AND ISBEL DRIVE), WHERE NATIVE AMERICAN REMAINS WERE REPORTEDLY FOUND EARLIER THIS MONTH. THE PARTIAL SKULL APPEARS TO BE THAT OF A NATIVE AMERICAN CHILD, AND THE BURIAL SITE IS BELIEVED TO BE THOUSANDS OF YEARS OLD.
THE OHLONE PEOPLE (ALSO KNOWN AS THE COSTANOANS) ARE KNOWN TO HAVE INHABITED THE COASTAL AREA (FROM THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY, ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE MONTEREY BAY, AND INLAND THROUGH THE SALINAS VALLEY).
