THE MONTEREY COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION IS RECOMMENDING THAT THE REZONING OF THE OLD CARMEL CONVALESCENT HOSPITAL SITE TO BE DENIED. A DEVELOPER, WHO WANTS TO BUILD 46 CONDOS (ON THE SITE THAT CURRENTLY WOULD ALLOW 7 HOMES), WANTS IT TO BE RE-ZONED TO “HIGH DENSITY”. THE PLANNING COMMISSION SAYS IT’S AN ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE SITE, AND BECAUSE ITS ALSO IN THE COASTAL ZONE, FURTHER STUDY SHOULD BE DONE.
COMMISSIONERS PLAN TO REVISIT THIS ISSUE AT THEIR JULY 27TH MEETING.
