The federal emergency management agency has denied california’s request for financial assistance, to help cover costs incurred when a series of rainstorms hit California in march. The storms caused 17-million dollars worth of damage in santa cruz county alone, and the state-wide total was 44-point-5 million dollars. While that figure is just above the threshold to receive 75-percent coverage by the federal government, FEMA ruled that the storms were too disconnected and manageable, to warrant emergency aid. The governor has 30-days to appeal the ruling. FEMA assistance for damage incurred by march’s tsunami surge has already been approved.
