The santa cruz police department launched a new program today in the Harvey west park area, in partnership with first alarm security. The pilot program was started, after residents, park users and local business owners lobbied the police department to come up with a more permanent security solution. Uniformed, First alarm security officers will patrol the park every day, for 8-hours. Police officers will still make regular patrols. The program is modeled on the increased private-security in downtown santa cruz, and will be funded by the santa cruz police department. The program will be evaluated in 1-month.
