Pg and e plans to start replacing electricity meters in santa cruz county this summer, with new, digital smart meters. The wireless meters can transmit usage data to pg an e electronically. Many have opposed the meters, and santa cruz county, (as well as several cities) have passed symbolic moratoriums on their installation. But with permission from state officials, pg and e plans to install meters in scotts valley, soquel, and Watsonville beginning at the end of the month. The city of santa cruz will see installations in july, and capitola and additional areas of soquel should have meters installed in august.
