21 monterey county sheriff’s deputies and SERGEANTS received preliminary layoff notices this week. the pink slips come as a result of county-wide budget cuts. those affected will have the choice of accepting the lay-off, or agree to a reduction in rank. the monterey county sheriff’s office was instructed to cut 1.3 million dollars from its next years fiscal budget .
