Borders Bookstores has filed for chapter-11 bankruptcy protection, forcing the national chain to close about 2-hundred of its 6-hundred-42 stores. Among the stores slated for closure is the Borders on Pacific Avenue, in Santa Cruz. A date has not yet been announced for the bookstore’s closure, however clearance sales could start as soon as this weekend. Borders was forced to file for bankruptcy-protection as it faced reduced sales, increased competition from new electronic readers, and unsustainable debt.
