UCSC PROFESSOR AWARDED FOR DNA WORK. 02-10-11 16:30 a.v.

A U.C. Santa Cruz professor and his team have been awarded for their research on a project that studies ancient DNA. Assistant Professor of Biomolecular Engineering at U.C.S.C., Richard Green, was acknowledged for a landmark paper he wrote on the Neanderthal Genome project. Green, a leader in bioinformatics, wrote software and developed computation techniques needed to analyze DNA sequences extracted from fossil bones. The Newcomb Cleveland prize was awarded by The American Association for the Advancement of Science to Green and his coauthors on the project, after a paper titled “A Draft Sequence of the Neanderthal Genome” ran in the May 7th 2010 issue of Science.
