A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday in Monterey County for a new site aimed at providing low income families with income tax assistance. Congressman Sam Farr and Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue were on hand at the Alisal Family Resource Center in East Salinas to kick off the new program there, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, or also known as VITA. Low income families, who earn less than $49,000, can receive help on how to fill out tax returns on a first come first served basis for free. The new site on 1441 Del Monte Avenue is in addition to 7 other sites in Monterey County.
