GRANDFATHER CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE 01-19-11 09:00 a.v.

A Monterey grandfather was charged with child abuse yesterday after allegedly assaulting his 11-year old grand-daughter over the use of a computer. Retired dentist, 76-year old Max Banner pleaded not guilty to felony counts of battery on a child and child endangerment with force likely to cause great bodily injury, as well as a misdemeanor count of child endangerment. Banner reportedly became enraged over the girl’s use of a computer, hit her twice in the chest and held his hand over her mouth and nose preventing her from breathing. He is slated to return to court on February 4th for a preliminary hearing.
