GILROY HIGH SPEED RAIL PROJECT 07-20-10 19:10 a.v.

Gilroy residents voiced their concerns when they met this week to discuss a proposed high-speed rail route. Plans for the 220 mile-per-hour bullet train include a route through downtown Gilroy or one through residential property in unincorporated areas of Gilroy and San Martin. Area residents expressed their concerns over decreases in property values, noise levels, increased congestion, ruined farm-land and possible costs to local taxpayers. Officials with California High-Speed Rail Authority claim that the 45-billion dollar project is a significant economic and environmental gain, while also creating 600,000 jobs state-wide.
