GOVERNOR FILES LAWSUIT 07-06-10 19:00 a.v.

A new lawsuit has been filed by Governor Schwarzenegger’s Administration in an effort to enforce the federal minimum wage to government workers. The suit seeks a restraining order forcing the state controller, John Chiang to pay state employees $7.25 an hour, rather than their full salaries, after the state failed to pass a budget for the current fiscal year. An appellate court ruled last week that the Governor had the authority to order the minimum wage ruling.  Chiang says the order was not carried out since the state’s computer payroll system is not able to handle the change.
