A local surfer has been recognized for his environmental activism. 20-year-old Santa Cruz resident Kyle Thiermann was presented with the Blue Frontier Campaign/Peter Benchley award on Friday night in San Francisco. Thiermann was applauded for his work helping fisherman prevent a power plant from being built in Chile with money from multi-national corporations.
