9TH ANNUAL COASTAL CLEANUP REVIEW 09-23-2013 07:00 av

THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF TRASH WERE COLLECTED OVER THE WEEKEND AS PART OF AN ANNUAL CLEAN UP EFFORT ON THE COAST.   THE 39TH ANNUAL COASTAL CLEANUP DAY NETTED ROUGHLY 17,150 POUNDS OF WASTE ON BEACHES IN BOTH SANTA CRUZ AND MONTEREY COUNTIES.  OVER 3,000 VOLUNTEERS COVERED NEARLY 80 SITES IN BOTH COUNTIES.   STATEWIDE, VOLUNTEERS COLLECTED DEBRIS AT MORE THAN 850 SITES IN 53 OF CALIFORNIA’S 58 COUNTIES.  LAST YEAR 17,000 POUNDS OF TRASH WAS PICKED UP IN BOTH COUNTIES. 

 

 

 

 

MEANWHILE, CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN ANNOUNCED SATURDAY A BILL HE SIGNED TO HELP PROTECT AND PRESERVE THE STATE’S COASTLINE.
