Life Lab, the organization responsible for creating many school gardens around Santa Cruz, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this weekend.
On Saturday, 15 schools will open their school gardens to members of the public who would like to see and understand the garden classrooms. On Sunday, Life Lab will host a gala dinner to celebrate the group’s 40th birthday.
Life Lab says many of today’s school gardens were started during the 1980s and 1990 and have been in operation ever since. Besides educational opportunities, the gardens also provide food for students to enjoy.
