CO-ED BATHROOM SIGNATURES- 04-11-14 12:30 SG

A HEARING AT THE SACRAMENTO SUPERIOR COURT TODAY (FRI) WILL ADDRESS A CAMPAIGN AGAINST A CO-ED BATHROOM BILL.   THE COURT WILL DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT COUNTIES CAN WITHHOLD OVER 130-THOUSAND SIGNATURES THAT ARE IN FAVOR OF OVERTURNING A-B 12-66.   EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE SECRETARY OF STATE SAID THE REFERENDUM FAILED DUE TO A LACK OF VALID SIGNATURES.    UPON INVESTIGATION, VOLUNTEERS OF THE REFERENDUM CAMPAIGN FOUND MANY OF THE SIGNATURES WERE WRONGLY INVALIDATED.    THE STATE IS ARGUING THAT THE SIGNATURES CANNOT BE TURNED OVER DUE TO VOTER CONFIDENTIALITY.   THE CO-ED BATHROOM BILL ENACTED LAST YEAR WOULD ALLOW STUDENTS TO CHOOSE BATHROOMS BASED ON THEIR SELF-IDENTIFIED GENDER.
