A FEDERAL JUDGE HAS UPHELD THE CALIFORNIA BAN ON THE SALE OF SHARK FINS, TOSSING OUT A CHALLENGE THAT SAID THE BAN UNFAIRLY TARGETED THE CHINESE COMMUNITY. U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE WILLIAM ORRICK SAYS THE LAW APPLIES EQUALLY ALL AROUND THE STATE, AND DOES NOT TARGET ANY ONE GROUP. THE BAN WENT INTO FULL EFFECT IN JULY . THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CHINATOWN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION SAYS THEY PLAN TO APPEAL JUDGE ORRICK’S RULING.
