AS MUCH AS 168 THOUSAND GALLONS OF OIL HAS SEEPED INTO THE WATERS 12 MILES OFF SHORE OF GALVESTON BAY IN THE GULF OF MEXICO SINCE 2 SHIPS COLLIDED SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THE BARGE THAT IS LEAKING WAS CARRYING ABOUT 900 THOUSAND GALLONS OF HEAVY TAR-LIKE OIL WHEN IT COLLIDED WITH A SHIP IN THE HOUSTON SHIP CHANNEL AROUND 12:30 P-M. ONLY 1 OF THE 6 DRUMS IT CARRIED WAS BREACHED, BUT THE SPILL IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT UP TO 70 THOUSAND SHORE-BIRDS.
