THE ENCINAL FIRE, BURNING IN THE HILLS SOUTHEAST OF SALINAS, HAS BURNED 400 ACRES….AND IS NOW CONSIDERED TO BE 80 PERCENT CONTAINED. IT BEGAN AS A 35-ACRE CONTROLLED BURN, BUT WENT OUT OF CONTROL AROUND 4:45 P-M WEDNESDAY. SINCE THEN ABOUT 200 FIREFIGHTERS HAVE BEEN WORKING TO GET THIS WILDLAND BLAZE UNDER CONTROL.
