Flooding, Road Closures As Heavy Rains Fall On Saturated Ground

After years of praying for rain, Santa Cruz County has had more than its fill. Looking for something to bet on now that the Super Bowl is in the past? Try betting on whether 17 will stay open!

Take A Look At Some Local Flooding

WORK IS UNDERWAY TO REMOVE AND STABILIZE SAN CLEMENTE DAM IN MONTEREY COUNTY.    THE APPROVED PLAN, WHICH ADDRESSES HAVING THE DAM MEET CURRENT STATE SAFETY STANDARDS, INVOLVES MULTIPLE PHASES OF WORK.    AN ACCESS ROAD THAT LINKS THE DAM TO CARMEL VALLEY ROAD IS BEING BUILT TO ALLOW THE PASSAGE OF LARGE TRUCKS.   SECONDLY, THE PROJECT CALLS FOR RE-ROUTING THE CARMEL RIVER INTO SAN CLEMENTE CREEK IN ORDER TO KEEP THE EXISTING SEDIMENT IN PLACE, AND FINALLY THE REMOVAL OF THE DAM IN VARIOUS PHASES.  THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY 2015.
