A 3-year-old girl was airlifted to a hospital after a boating accident yesterday. The incident took place shortly after 2 p.m. at Sunny Cove Beach in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz. Witnesses say that two rental motorboats, each with two adults and a small child attempted to make beach landings. One of the boats was able to turn back to safety away from the high surf. The other boat was capsized by a wave. Bystanders and surfers helped to pull the victims from the surf. The male driving the boat was arrested for child endangerment. The female was cited and the child was flown to a medical center for observation.
