A 54-year-old salinas man was sentenced thursday to life in prison. Mark rivera was given the sentence in a monterey county courtroom, in compliance with california’s 3-strikes law. Rivera is a 7-time D-U-I offender. His strikes came from incidents from 1995 to this year, and included trying to outrace a train in castroville. Rivera did not beat the train, and his passenger was killed. He had also been convicted of using a car as a deadly weapon and other crimes.
