THERE ARE 3 EVENTS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE THIS WEEKEND, AND THEY ARE EACH EXPECTED TO IMPACT TRAFFIC IN THE GREATER MONTEREY BAY AREA….
Today through Sunday, organizers are projecting roughly 140,000 spectators will attend three days of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The Gilroy Garlic Festival, which runs today through Sunday, has been known to draw six-figure crowds and back up traffic on 101 in both directions.
People headed to Sunday’s Moss Landing Antique Street Faire (traveling on Highway 1 along the coast) also draws thousands and is expected to compound traffic headed to the raceway. The local C.H.P. office is getting help from other area officers (including Santa Cruz) to patrol Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties.
The traffic this weekend is expected to be especially heavy in the morning (and later afternoon) hours, in areas near Laguna Seca, such as Highway 68, Canyon Del Rey and General Jim Moore boulevards.
