GRANT MONEY WILL BE USED TO LAUNCH A PILOT PROJECT DESIGNED TO KEEP SALINAS YOUTHS OUT OF GANGS, AND AWAY FROM VIOLENCE. THE 4.5 MILLION DOLLAR GRANT WAS AWARDED BY THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION, AND GOES TO THE 4 AREAS OF THE COUNTRY. THE MONTEREY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, THE BOSTON PUBLIC HEALTH COMMISSION, MULTNOMAH COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT IN OREGON, AND THE HOUSTON DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES IN TEXAS, WILL EACH RECEIVE 225 THOUSAND DOLLARS (PER YEAR, FOR 5 YEARS).
