ABOUT 800 PEOPLE RAN IN TODAY’S 28TH ANNUAL SANTA CRUZ FIRECRACKER RACE. TODAY’S 10K, 5K, AND 1K RUNS BEGAN AT HARVEY WEST PARK AND THEN HEADED UP TOWARD THE POGONIP. THE MONEY BROUGHT IN BY THE RACES GOES TO HELP SUPPORT THE SUNRISE ROTARY CLUB‘S MANY CHARITIES….AND THIS YEAR A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS WILL ALSO GO TO THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND THAT HONORS FALLEN SANTA CRUZ OFFICERS BUTCH BAKER AND ELIZABETH BUTLER.
24 YEAR-OLD APTOS RESIDENT JOSEPH KOCHLACS CAME IN FIRST IN THE 10K; WHILE 29 YEAR-OLD APTOS RESIDENT SCOTT McCONVILLE CAME IN FIRST IN THE 5K RACE. THE FIRST WOMAN TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE IN THE 10K WAS 27 YEAR-OLD JANAE JACOBS; AND THE FIRST FEMALE 5K FINISHER WAS 31 YEAR-OLD MICHELLE PROWSE.
