As the nation commemorates the 20th anniversary of the school shootings at Columbine, and the first anniversary of the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, (as well as many other school shootings around the country) the members of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education continue to develop a Countywide Threat Assessment Plan. The Plan is designed to provide schools with a clear, uniform protocol to assess and respond to threats of school violence. Although it is hoped that they will never need the information, school staff must be well-prepared for all kinds of safety incidents (up to, and including), the possibility of an Active Shooter on campus.
