A BIG RIG ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 1-0-1 IN SALINAS LEFT 1 PERSON DEAD AND SEVERAL OTHERS INJURED. THE COLLISION HAPPENED IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES NEAR THE JOHN STREET EXIT AT ABOUT 5:15 P-M. C-H-P INVESTIGATORS SAY THAT A TANKER TRUCK LADEN WITH 27-TONS OF RED WINE COLLIDED WITH A SUBARU AND REAR ENDED AN S-U-V, POSSIBLY WHILE MAKING A LANE CHANGE. ALL 4 OCCUPANTS OF THE S-U-V WERE TRANSPORTED TO MEDICAL CENTERS, 1 OF THE PASSENGERS, DESCRIBED AS A 62 YEAR OLD WOMAN FROM NEW YORK WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT A SALINAS HOSPITAL. THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
