Ten new single-person “cottages” have been delivered, built and outfitted and are nearly ready for some homeless people to move into. The 64 square-foot shelters are part of a pilot plan operated by “Housing Matters” in Santa Cruz. Currently the ‘pallet shelters’, which cost about $8,000 each, are lined-up in the parking lot at 115 Coral Street. They’ll be used to help space out residents of the emergency 40-bed Paul Lee Loft Shelter, which has been too crowded (based on the Covid-19 Health Directives).
