People in Santa Cruz, that use either debit or credit cards, are being encouraged to check their banking statements for anomalies. That’s because 1 skimmer was recently found at a bank in Santa Cruz, and more are thought to have been deployed at other banks and gas stations in the Santa Cruz area. Card skimmers are devices that are used to illegally gather bank account information. Some signs that a skimmer may have been placed in a card reader are loose, crooked or damaged pieces around the card slot. People are also warned to block the keypad when entering their pin number, to prevent possible hidden cameras from recording the pin number.
